Services
Most people experience highs and lows over their lifetime and the opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings can
assist in maintaining good psychological health. People with a disability may benefit from different approaches to
exploring and understanding their emotions, including support for those who do not communicate verbally, and for those who may benefit from some extra time to process feelings. I work from a strengths-based model and can assist people with a disability who may be experiencing psychological distress such as changes in mood, anxiety, adjustment or grief.
I can conduct diverse psychological assessments to help gain a better understanding of a person’s functioning or factors relating to their challenges. Assessments available include:
- Standardised Psychometric Assessments such as IQ tests and adaptive functioning tests.
- Functional Assessments to identify areas of strength and challenge to inform skill building needs.
- Environmental Assessments to assist in building skills or managing risk.
- Assessments to support or confirm a diagnosis.
- Supported Independent Living (SIL) Assessments.
I provide high quality behaviour support services including:
- Using Functional Behaviour Analysis to understand the function of challenging behaviour.
- Developing positive behaviour support strategies and training and supporting families, staff and support networks in their use.
- Understanding and managing challenging behaviour.
- Assessing and developing strategies to manage risk related to behaviours of harm.
- Working with families and support networks to improve consistency in behaviour strategies.
- Liaising with other allied health practitioners to promote a holistic and thorough response to challenging behaviours.
I can help a person and their support network to build the skills they need to achieve goals and improve independence. This may include:
- Understanding and managing emotions,
- Improving social skills and ability to interact meaningfully with others.
- Developing problem solving strategies.
- How to best support your family member with a disability to help them develop and grow in their independence.
